2-D production final stills by Saetje 2-D production final stills by Saetje
Okkaay!

So here are the backgrounds, screenshots, and 3 detail things of my 2-D production final for school. If you saw [link] then you know who the little character is.

I tried really heard to think about the style. I was mainly inspired by Hanna-Barbera and Rob Renzetti. Renzetti especially, with Teenage Robot and Mina and the count [link] . In both these shows the backgrounds are somewhat flat and simple, and yet the colors are a STRONG presence in the show, going so far as to completely change the color scheme of the characters to have them match their surroundings and the mood of the scene. Also, flat, nicely-silhouetted characters matter.

Though, i was definitely going to have Turner have a thick outline like in these cartoons, but my good friend *DemonGemini6 suggested I go line less, and I really think she gave me some great advice.

Anyway. The point of the project was to sell a mood and admittedly I think I did okay with that...I'll upload the actual ANIMATION once I spruce it up a bit...

Thank you!

This is stunning! I really like how you combine graphic design and animation! Everything feels so natural. Heck, everything in your gallery feels like every detail has a purpose to the piece. Haha

SheeEEEESH your stuff is just so bloody brilliant. I LOVE how much work and thought you put into your stuff. Its definitely that amount of care into the process that will set you a bar above the other animators. Your stuff is professional by all accounts, and I really can't wait to see how you do after SCAD! Your choice of colors here creates a perfect atmosphere and sets the mood. I LOVE that you chose those inspirations! I love that style of background and I only WISH I could capture it as well as you can! I suck at choosing colors, I don't know how you do it! Such great angles and shot choices in these stills too.

hey Fyuvix, I really appreciate you dropping by and leaving such nice comments! This one particularly I kept around for a couple of days to just reread XD (as I do with some of your other comments, as well!).

As for my colors, thank you! I've been told I have a certain talent for them and I'm always very flattered to hear it. However, there's also a lot of resources out there to help you with your color choices, as well. My favorite so far has been colourlovers.com, whichis actually where the color scheme used in this film came from :D!

Thanks so much, and no prob XD I usually let emails sit for weeks if they're too long! I go to colourlovers too! I've made a few new colors and palettes there, but I still suck at choosing my own XD I could always rip theres though, it's true!

These are really professional looking, I love the color scheme and all of the details you used. Another thing to consider (not right now) but in the future is the read of the character, like using slightly different colors on the main character so he is easier to see in the scene. I think the slight gradient you used on him here works very well though, I really enjoy Turners design, and would love to see this in it's entirety : )

Hi there! Thank you so much for the constructive critique. I was a little worried the colors of the character and the BG might make him not stand out as much, but then the point was to keep it everything kind of monochromatic, so I couldn't make him blue or something, you know? So I did try to help that with the light gradient around him, thanks for noticing! Anyway, I'll try to be more conscious of that in the future, thank you!

Yes absolutely, I completely get the feeling you were going for, and I think the solution you used was really nice (it's hard to keep thing monochromatic but it's always so rewarding to see), I like seeing that kind of creativity. good job as always and keep it up!

Yeah, you can really see the influence of Teenage Robot's style, can't wait to see the actual animation.

I'm curious though, what exactly is going on in this scene? Beyond the obvious of course lol.

the thing you don't get in the stills is that the camera is kind of floating around/wafting the whole time as if something is watching Turner pick up the book. In the end he sees what it is (but you, the viewer, do not)...and that's it, really. It's fairly simple, but it's only 25 seconds long and again- the project was about setting up a mood. Mine was "creepy", obviously.

Nay, i actually kinda got that from the stills, i was just wondering about the story behind all of that.

(The potential camera work was well apparent from the still angles actually. It's very good work.)

oh I'm sorry! I misunderstood.

This is based on an original story of mine called The Streetlight Monopoly and it's essentially a ghost story set in Edwardian America. Oh, and they're all baby animals.

The scene here is VERY loosely based off of a possible scene where Turner discovers the antagonist's secret hidden away in a photobook.
